MAY 16, 2010 VENUS OCCULTATION BY CRESCENT MOON IMAGES

Last May 16, 2010, a Venus occultation by the thin crescent Moon was visible in the Philippines. An occultation refers to the passage of a celestial body across a line between an observer and another celestial object. This event was more favorable to Luzon observers because they will be able to observe the disappearance (ingress) and reappearance (egress) whereas those in the Visayas and Mindanao areas such as Cebu and Davao City will only be able to observe the disappearance (Ingress) event only. James Kevin Ty together with ALPers Andrew Ian Chan and Babak Parhizkari went to Johndel Beach Resort in Nasugbu, Batangas to observe this event.

Below are images taken by James Kevin Ty using Canon 500D DSLR on TV-101 refractor at prime focus.  EFL= 864mm f/5.4.  Full report of this event in Nasugbu can be viewed at http://astrophotophils.blogspot.com/2010/05/y-16-2010-venus-occultation-observing.html .
