JULY 22, 2009 TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE IMAGES Astronomical League of the Philippines (ALP) President / 2009 ALP Wuhan Total Solar Eclipse (TSE) Expedition Team Leader James Kevin Ty lead a 13man expedition team to Wuhan, Hubei, China last July 19-24, 2009 to observe and image the Total Solar Eclipse that will be visible in Wuhan as well as major cities of China. Below are his images taken using Canon DSLR Systems. Fisheye Shots were taken using a full frame Canon 5D Mark II DSLR with Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 lens on loan from Canon Philippines. Eclipse sequence below were taken using a Canon full frame 5D Mark II DSLR with Canon EF 100mm-400mm f/4.5~f/5.6 IS L series lens with Canon EF II 2x teleconverter lens giving an effective focal length of 800mm . A Baader Photo Density 3.8 solar filter was used with the lens system most of the time except when thick clouds provided a natural filter. On extra note, the Canon 100mm-400mm lens was lent by fellow ALPer Jett Aguilar for James to test it with the Canon 5D Mark II. Weather that morning was on and off but most of the time, they were able to get continuous images the entire 2.5 hours of eclipse. They were also able to see all contacts except that the "diamond ring effect" on the 2nd and 3rd contact were not seen because of cloud cover. All images below were taken by James unless noted.
